About Alicia Mohr
I am a professor in the University of Florida Department of Surgery and the chief of the UF Division of Acute Care Surgery. As an acute care surgeon, I cover trauma emergency general surgery and the ICU. I see patients in the emergency department, operating room and surgical intensive care units for all traumatic injuries and emergency general surgical conditions, including appendicitis, cholecystitis, bowel obstruction and necrotizing soft tissue infection. Working in emergency care is a multidisciplinary endeavor I find extremely rewarding. My goal as a physician is to provide optimal care, recognizing and acting fast on surgical emergencies.
I earned my medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School and completed my general surgery residency training at the affiliated University Hospital, followed by a surgical critical care fellowship at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. I am board certified in surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery.
Prior to joining UF Health, I worked as an associate professor of surgery in the division of trauma/critical care at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School’s department of surgery and progressed leadership through the University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. I went from medical director of the trauma/surgical progressive care unit to program director for the surgical critical care fellowship and director of the surgical intensive care unit. Additionally, I worked as the director of trauma/critical care research at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
My clinical interests include trauma surgery, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery. These three disciplines encompass acute care surgery, the comprehensive care of emergent, critically-ill surgical patients. My research interests are both in basic science as well as translational. I currently am examining the impact of stress following injury and shock on erythropoiesis. My research is NIH funded, where I was also a recipient of a NIH mentored research grant. I simultaneously was awarded by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma/American College of Surgeons Clowes to support further research.
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling and watching football.
